Hi Folks, What a glorious week, ideal for getting out on the hills. The more observant of
you will have noticed that the days are getting shorter – for those inner city types – the street lights are coming on before its time to get home from the pub.
RUN/WALK IN CHEVIOTS - 3 OCTOBER
The Cheviots are excellent runnable grassy hills that straddle the Scottish English Border. The Borders Search and Rescue Team are organising a walking or running event over either a 16km or 23km route.
It is not a race as such, but would make an excellent trainig run or a trial run for anyone not too sure what hill running is like, but would like to give it a try. (more…)
This weekend will see all the usual endurance training sessions: On Saturday, meet at 10.00am at the Meadows Pavilion for a speed session. On Sunday at 9.00am its a long slow distance run from Craiglockhart Tennis Centre running out via the Canal path and Water of Leith to Balerno and further if required. A large number of the regular sunday runners are racing at Glasgow, but hopefully there will still be a few heading out from Craiglockhart.
The main weekend road races are the Glasgow 1/2M and 10k and it sounds like a large number of EAC runners have entered. Some are aiming to catch the 8am train through to Glasgow and then going for post race food and drink. We don’t have a specific venue yet, but if interested, meet up in Glasgow Green after the race and we will head into the city centre to find somewhere.
This winter will see a new training initiative, the Edinburgh Endurance Sessions. The aim is to encourage local athletes from all clubs within the area, to take part in joint training sessions which will hopefully raise the standard and quality of running. The initiative is being managed by Mark Pollard (Scottish Athletics assistant endurance manager). (more…)

A challenging 5k route in Arthurs Seat was designed and marked by last years Trophy Winner Kim . Marking the trail must have tired her out ( or maybe it was tough handicap) but we had a new winner in a very close race. As it is a handicap format the trophy goes to first club member to cross the line. Dermot was seen waving his club card in the pub . (more…)
The EAC ‘Power of 10′ spreadsheet has now been enhanced and a few more race times have been updated. (Last update 08/09/10). Thank you to everyone who has sent me their details. Thanks also go to Stuart Johnston who has helped out by automating the spreadsheet and making it far easier to update, and also for adding extra functionality including a useful sheet on Summary Stats which you will find interesting. A slightly early post this week with the weekend options, due to the fact we are staging the Robertson Handicap on Friday night! So we will start off with that! We are looking for a big turnout for this EAC handicap race, anyone can win, and everyone will enjoy it. There is also a night out planned for after the race at The Maltings/Montagu.
