These sessions have been arranged to encourage athletes from different clubs to train together to promote excellence and improve standards. The sessions are open to all endurance athletes, male and female, aged 15 and over. This winter, the first session will be on Saturday 1 December 2012 and I have been invited to be the lead coach on this one. It will be held at Holyrood Park, starting at 10.00am and will be on the grass area between Pollock Halls and Holyrood Palace. See the gmap link http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5748436 for the exact location. Either arrive warmed up and ready to run at 10.00 or if you want to take part in a group warm up, drills and strides, you should be there at 9.30. (more…)

Helpers are required for the BUPA Great Edinburgh Run on Sunday 7th October. The duties will be the same as last year with the EAC crew deployed at the finish area of the race, so from about 9.30-12.00 and may involve removing chips or handing out water/goody bags. Everyone who helped out last year will assure you that it’s not hard work and is good fun being part of the event. Over and above the feel good factor, each helper will receive a Nike jacket and a packed lunch. NOVA will also donate £20 to EAC for every helper we supply (we are looking to supply 20 helpers), so this makes a great contribution to club funds. If you are available on the 7th October, your help would be greatly appreciated, please pass your details along with jacket size to Garry or Alex or add a comment below.
A remarkable team performance has secured vital Premier League action for the Edinburgh ladies next season. Everyone knew it was going to be a tough day going into the final match in relegation 8th place but this only added to the determination of the team to perform well. On the day Birchfield were victorious, with Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow in 2nd and Swansea Harriers 3rd. Edinburgh managed to finish a fantastic 4th overall which was more than enough to secure their place in next season’s top flight. (more…)
We could still do with one or two more helpers for Sunday’s races, so if you are available, please volunteer to help, the tasks are easy and you get a cracking technical fabric t-shirt for your efforts. If you can help, please contact Emma, Alex or Garry ASAP or post a comment below.
The only good excuse for not helping out is if you are running….. and you are not too late, you can still get your entry in via Entry Central up until Thursday 2nd August, there are good individual and team prizes on offer in the 10k, so lets get a good EAC representation in our own race! Enter at Entrycentral
On a very busy racing weekend, team EAC’s women put on a great show in Glasgow in the Women’s 10k. We took two of the podium places and (yet to be officially confirmed) were first team, in a great show of the strength and depth in our squad. And all this on a wild, latterly wet day when the temptation to stay in bed for an extra hour was very hard to resist!
Well done to Freya Murray on her London Marathon performance, Freya was competing in her first marathon and finished in 13th place (second Briton) in a time of 2:28:10 and is still hoping to pick up the reserve spot for the London Olympics.
Grangemouth is never going to win any prizes for its scenery but for a race in March, it managed a huge field and a gorgeous warm sunny day. We’d been trying to get enough runners for a women’s team to challenge for the team prize and despite both of them nursing injuries, Sheenagh and Lyndsey had gallantly turned up to make up enough counters. And at registration, Garry spotted that Sue was running which was an extra bonus! Dan and Neil were leading the way for our guys with Dan on the hunt for another PB. (more…)
