Add in Richard and Gail’s wedding reception on Saturday night and on Sunday we may be down in numbers, but if anyone is still looking for a long run from Craiglockhart Sports Centre, meet in the top car park at 9.00 and head out on the Canal and Water of Leith paths to Balerno and beyond.

Firstly can we thank everyone who makes a financial contribution to the Club.

As we are sure you will appreciate the “running” (forgive the pun) costs of the Club are growing year on year particularly in regard to entering competitions and travelling to compete in them. In 2011 we spent approximately £24,500 in this regard, this increased to approximately £38,200 in 2012. We do not anticipate 2013 being any lower than this and in the circumstances it is clear to see that fund raising is a priority for us all.

In terms of Subscriptions Brian Nisbet, is doing a fantastic job in gathering subscription fees and thank you to all of you who have paid this year’s fees. Subscriptions however cover less than 30% of our costs so we need to seek revenue from as many sources as possible. We get a great contribution from the 200 Club organised by Marion Donachie and we also get excellent revenue from the various events we stage throughout the year both on the track and road, again thanks to all concerned.

A further important form of fund raising for us is via Matched Giving Schemes, for example last year we received donations totalling £1,500 from Lloyds Banking Group. These donations have been made in respect of volunteering work that club members have undertaken in respect of club events.

It is important therefore that we look all avenues possible to fund raise and in particular those that are available as a consequence of our charitable status. The Club Executive have been looking at how best we can maximise our fund raising going forward. The track and field events and road running events will continue to be a mainstay of the promotions we put on during the year to raise funds however going forward we are looking for volunteers to will participate in two initiatives.

Parents Group

Yvonne and Gail have been responsible for some great fund raising activities over the years. We are looking to build on this by asking for more volunteers to join them. The idea would be have more events that have a social/fun side to them which will have the dual effect of raising money but also helping build the social side of the club. For example bringing us altogether at social events like the Christmas Dance.

If you would like to be part of the Parents Group, then please contact either Yvonne or Gail via email at: m_and_y_jones@blueyonder.co.uk

Finance Group

This will be chaired by Ian Cunningham (or any other interest party) with a view to looking at ways to maximise our charitable status via for example gift aid, matched giving, grant funding etc.

If you would like to be part of this Group please contact Ian Cunningham on:

Phone – 0131 339 1602

Mobile – 07948381921

Email – cunnie@blueyonder.co.uk

Many thanks

Livingston AC are organising an open graded meeting on the evening of Wednesday 29 May.
Open graded meetings are where you enter an event and will be seeded so that you compete against athletes of a similar standard. Any athlete aged from 9 years up to seniors/masters can take part. This is an ideal chance to get a time, distance or height, particularly if you missed the Lothian Trials. Your results will go into the club ranking lists which help team managers to pick teams for the league matches. It also gives you the opportunity to experiment in events that you don’t normally do.

Entries must be made online - Closing Date Sunday 26th May. http://www.livingstonac.com/open
