The jogscotland events are called ‘challenges’ rather than races, as initially they were aimed at jogscotland members and those new to running. However as the events expanded, they are now attracting club runners of all abilities and a number of Edinburgh AC athletes were prominent in this years race. In previous years Juan and Kim have both been winners of this event.

Scottish Masters Championships, Pitreavie
I woke up on Saturday morning to hazy sunshine and very little wind. “Perfect track weather” I said to myself. I drove to Pitreavie with my husband Jonathan. I went off to declare for my event while he went off on a jaunt on his bike. Roughly 50 miles I believe……I felt a bit of a fraud as I was only running 3km! I dumped my kit in the car and went off for a warm up. 20 meters into my jog, my foot went down a pot hole and I fell over in a heap. Not the best start. This was the same leg I received physio for on Wednesday. After I re-adjusted my kit (and more importantly my hair) I continued with my warm-up avoiding said pot-hole.
It wasn’t long before we were called to assembly. There was 7 of us entered in the 3km – quite a big field for this distance. We were called to the start line, then it was time for the off. Sue Ridley took up her usual spot at the front of the queue. I tucked into 3rd and felt comfortable. Very soon I was in 2nd place and widened the gap between me and number 3. My laps remained fairly consistent but I still couldn’t quite get as close to Sue as I would’ve liked. However, the fact I felt good and strong is testament to the training I have had in the past 4 weeks. I finished the race in 2nd place overall, but 1st in the V35 category, and with a 2 second PB! Thank you Alex for your coaching, sessions and support. I’m going to have a few days of rest and then start to prepare for the Scottish National Champs in August. This time it’s the 5km. Am I looking forward to more hard and challenging sessions? If it’s for another PB and medal, then bring it on!
The Masters is a great experience. I met so many people today, and the atmosphere is so supportive yet relaxed. If you are 35 and over, give it a go. It’s such a rewarding day.

ENGLAND UNDER-20/23 CHAMPIONSHIPS AND WORLD JUNIOR TRIALS
Chris O’Hare, having set a new 1500m personal best in the Scottish Schools Championships last weekend (3:56.01) finished third in the under-20 men’s 5000m (14:50.66), and although one second outside his personal best set in the Scottish Closed Senior Championships in May, was almost four seconds inside the Commonwealth Youth Games qualifying standard (14.54.00).
Jayne Nisbet won a brilliant medal double, in addition to scoring a new personal best, in the high jump and triple jump.
Jayne’s 1.82m Gold medal performance in the high jump was a new best, a one centimetre improvement on her winning Scottish Under-23 Championship effort a week ago and moving her up to fifth on the UK Power of 10 performance rankings, eight on the Scottish All-Time lists and meeting the UK 10 target (1.82m).

In the triple jump Jayne recorded 12.96m for silver, only marginally outside her 13.01m best and missing out on gold to Sineade Gutzmore (Highgate) who stole victory with a 13.02m personal best.
Lynsey Sharp who qualified for the final of the 800m, having the fastest time in the heats, pulled out as a precautionary measure.
