News from the USA

There has been some good running from our athletes who are studying at Butler University, Indianapolis, USA.

Kris Gauson, after more than a year of injury problems, set a personal best in the mile, just failing to get under 4 minutes with a time of 4m 00.53s at an indoor meeting in Seattle on 15 February. Marbeth Shiel set a new university record for the 5000m with a time of 17m 59.97s. Also running was Stephen Lisgo who set a PB of 8m 05.83s for the 3000m.

Kris’s brother Darren, who used to study at Butler, is now Assistant Coach for Track and Field at the university.

Senior Cross Country Results

EAC had a fairly successful end to the cross country season by picking up a large number of individual and team prizes at the Scottish Championships on Saturday. The results are available from the SA website. All of the senior results have now been added to our cross country results spreadsheet and the final points for both the Grand Prix and the EAC Men’s Championship, have been included.

Full listings at: eac-seniors-cross-country-results220209

Grand Prix:

This was based on a total of 18 cross country races between October and February; it therefore not only highlights our best runners, but the stalwarts who have been representing the club ‘week in week out’ throughout the entire season.

In the Men’s event, Adam (114 points) used the final race to jump from second to first place and take the title from Roger (102), with Owain (95) in third place. In total, 53 men represented the club this season and all of the unsung hero’s are also listed on the spreadsheet.

In the Woman’s event, it was a much closer contest with only 4 points between 1st and 3rd place; Jenny (43) just edging Jo (41) and Lianne (39). With a total of 20 women counting across the entire season.

EAC Men’s Championship:

Roger has been compiling the Men’s Championship standing and since he is currently in Lanzarote, I have followed his rules and added the details. I have a few queries over the vet’s results but nothing which affects the top 3.

The Champions are:

Senior

1st Owain Bristow

2nd Roger Alsop

3rd Matt Bell

Masters (Over 35)

1st Roger Alsop

2nd Lars Ottemoller

3rd Neil Thin

Super Masters (Over 50)

1st Willie Gallagher

2nd Brian Howie

3rd Alex McEwan

Congratulations to all the winners and indeed all who took part.

Scottish CC Championships 21/02/09

Dear All,

We have entered  a big squad ( nearly everybody who features in EAC
grand prix) and a strong team. This is the biggest XC of the season and
we have had a reasonable if not good season in the league and district
champs which play to our strength:  depth of numbers. We should pack well
but we have to have leaders. I hope your colds are over and you have got
permission to be there!

To get  a team medal we need all out not just our best six.. so do not
be complacent.. we need a lot of vests up there. As Captain Fergie points
out.. every EAC position pushes down another club’s runner.. points
count. Lets see how many we can get in the top 60. Last year we were
fifth.

Our full squad is listed on the SA website
