Highland games club fundraiser

activitymix

Last year we helped Activity Mix organise a successful Highland Games at Merchiston Castle for corporate teams.  We raised £500 for the club and put on a good games.  So good we have been asked to do it again on the afternoon of Saturday 11th July again at Merchiston Castle.

There are traditional events as tug o’ war, 100m sprinting, long jump, caber, shot,  Irish hammer and four  ‘fun’ events in the style of ‘It’s a Knock Out!’

We have been asked to provide at least ten officials for demonstrating scoring and helping with safety.  This is a useful exercise for qualified officials and I know some of the executive have earmarked the date.  It is also useful for would be PE students, Duke of Edinburgh volunteers and younger (must be over 16) members who want some CV experience.

Alex McEwan is linking with the organisers and so if you are available email him at alex.mcewan@westlothian.gov.uk. Alex will brief any rules, safety points and the like if you are unsure and will pair experienced officials with novices.  It helps in the smooth running of the day, if some of us help set up the event stations so as we know the layout and familiarise ourselves with the site.

It was good fun last year and importantly for the officials there was a decent afternoon tea.  The participants were mainly novices although there were clearly some ringers in several teams!

Thanks in advance.

Core Running Inspiration Workshop

Jenny MacLean and Caroline Toshack are running another Core Running Inspiration workshop on Saturday May 16th from 9am to 1pm.

The workshop examines the close relationship between good posture and good efficient running style. We use pilates fundamentals to consider your posture and then use this as the basis to layer in how you run and how efficient this is, and can be, for you.

The aim of the workshop is to help you to understand the way your body moves when you are not running and therefore how this affects the way that you run. We give you specific feedback on your posture and running style and also cover the roles of core stability, co-ordination, running drills and stretching.

The workshop, priced at £40, takes place at Energywise Pilates Studio at Holyrood Business Park.

You can book onto this via the book a place page on www.edinburghrunningschool.co.uk or for more information contact me, Jenny on jenny@corefitnessinspiration.co.uk (07775 621465) or Caroline, on mail@Edinburghrunningschool.co.uk (07960 445557)
