Rest and recovery! What’s that all about?
Coaching isn’t all about telling athletes to train harder and more often. I’m sure some of you are getting fed up with me saying that rest and recovery can be as important as hard sessions (yes, you know who you are!). So, what is this rest and recovery all about then?
After we do hard speed sessions, races or long hard runs, we feel great and have a buzz as we feel good and the adrenalin is flowing. The next day, we wake up and think, I’ll have some more of that, jump out of bed and discover your legs whether quads, calves or hamstrings are a bit stiff and painful, they may even feel worse the next day again! so what has happened! Jonathan’s Hill Update 26/09/10
It was a race against time – could I get to the summit of Colt Hill (NX698990) and back to the car before darkness fell. I hadn’t any torches with me and on strange ground it is always difficult to estimate the time it will take to get to a fixed point, but it was a fine evening, clear sky, and there was just a hint of a full moon rising. East Neuk 10k 26/09/10 – Race Report by Vik Lomax
It’s a bit embarrassing when you enter a race because it’s makes a good excuse for a day trip to a chippy, but it was a good enough reason for a group of us to head over to the East Neuk 10k race. Arriving in Anstruther, the sun was shining and with Jo, Ben and Matt also making it over the bridge, we had a really good group of us together. (more…)

JSB Plumbing Forth Valley League
JSB Plumbing Forth Valley League
Another success from our young athletes in winning the JSB Plumbing Forth Valley League Div I. As well as being overall winners in the league, they were also first in the Track and first in the Field events.
We run two teams in this league and our Division II team finished 5th in the league. This year in order to give more athletes a chance to compete, we made a concerted effort to try and avoid using our first, second and third stream athletes and were very happy that we still retained the title. Nokia Coast to Coast race report by Kim Threadgall
I completed the inaugural Nokia Scottish Coast to Coast on Sunday which was a 100 mile journey from Nairn to the Isles of Glencoe Hotel in Ballachulish on foot, bike and kayak. Over the weekend there were three categories and the one which appealed to me happened to be the ‘expert’ category as it involved 11 miles of kayaking compared to one mile in the other categories. Before entering the race though I checked with the organisers that I would be okay to take part in case they were only looking for elite racers! (more…)
