I’ve not run a half marathon in over five years, had no real intention of doing one this year either and I’m not a huge fan of long car journeys. But picking up Runners World at the start of the year, the Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon had a great write up and was voted one of the top races. And if the high rating and thought of racing on the beach and over sand dunes wasn’t enough to sway me, the mention of a ceilidh afterwards did the trick and there I was getting my application in and roping along Garry to join me. Ian Cunningham (EAC club treasurer) is trying to encourage a few of us along to the British Heart Foundation’s Jim Jam Jogs. Try something different and enjoy an evening 5k in your P.J.’s in Edinburgh’s Botanical Gardens on Wednesday 8th June – see attached for details. BHF Poster

Since 2008 I’ve been going on holiday to Club la Santa Lanzarote and every time it seems to be the week before the Lanzarote Ironman.  I’ve witnessed the build up to the event and it’s always interested me.  Last year a rumour had circulated that 2011 was going to be the last ever Lanzarote Ironman so I definitely couldn’t let this opportunity slip by me to compete.
Training had not at all gone to plan, winter had been harsh and bike miles limited.  Running had taken a hit too with ITB problems and having to spend 5 weeks in the states with work would seem to be the nail in the coffin for a good race build up.      (more…)

Lauren Stoddart has a couple of pairs of spikes for sale.  1) Size 5 Asics worn twice, paid £51 wanting to sell for about £25-£30 and 2) A pair of Nike spikes never been worn, says size 4 but very small size 4, wanting to sell for £10-£15. Click on the photos for a closer view. This weekend will see the usual training sessions: On Saturday, meet at 10.00am at the Meadows Pavilion for a speed session. Sunday morning at 9.00am will be the long run from Craiglockhart Tennis Centre, meet in the top car park before heading out on paths and trails to Balerno and beyond with run distances from 12-16 miles.
