Torch Relay- Hopetoun House

On behalf of West Lothian Council, can I thank all EAC members who helped at The Hopetoun House Eric Liddell Trail runs on Olympic Torch Relay day. The athletics, the setting, the iconic Torch, the sunshine, we are so pleased with the day.

Kirk, Jenny, Sarah and Mhairi ran in club or international vest as did  former EAC man Mark Johnstone. All added to the expertise on the day. I have had great reports from all the schools. Some commented on the fitness of our athletes others on your knowledge and enthusiasm. Staff could see your contribution. So thank you. A great credit to athletics and your clubs.

Other clubs contributed such as  Portobello and there is a great blog with photos by Peter Buchanan. Local club Linlithgow helped, who I hear have started planning their popular challenging 10k road race.

Some feel of the day is here in a Porty view which maybe captures all the good of sport within the corporatism of Professional sport:- Peter’s Blog

I am gathering some photaes of the days sport and hope to get them posted shortly

World Masters Mountain Running Championships – 19/05/12

On 19 May, Sue Ridley was in Buhlertahl, Germany for the World Masters Mountain Running Championships competing over an extremely tough 9.5km course with an 880m climb in temperatures exceeding 24C. The races were divided into 5 year age group categories from 35 to 75 with men and women running together in their respective age groups.

Due to the sheer numbers and the narrow start line, Sue unfortunately found herself several rows from the front of a quality field. At 1pm after a slow start and a lot of pushing and shoving, Sue set off up the very steep tarmac section of approx 2.5km which led out of the village.    (more…)
