Last year we helped Activity Mix organise a successful Highland Games at Merchiston Castle for corporate teams. We raised £500 for the club and put on a good games. So good we have been asked to do it again on the afternoon of Saturday 11th July again at Merchiston Castle.
There are traditional events as tug o’ war, 100m sprinting, long jump, caber, shot, Irish hammer and four ‘fun’ events in the style of ‘It’s a Knock Out!’
We have been asked to provide at least ten officials for demonstrating scoring and helping with safety. This is a useful exercise for qualified officials and I know some of the executive have earmarked the date. It is also useful for would be PE students, Duke of Edinburgh volunteers and younger (must be over 16) members who want some CV experience.
Alex McEwan is linking with the organisers and so if you are available email him at firstname.lastname@example.org. Alex will brief any rules, safety points and the like if you are unsure and will pair experienced officials with novices. It helps in the smooth running of the day, if some of us help set up the event stations so as we know the layout and familiarise ourselves with the site.
It was good fun last year and importantly for the officials there was a decent afternoon tea. The participants were mainly novices although there were clearly some ringers in several teams!
Thanks in advance.
