Record entry for Edinburgh to North Berwick 20 mile race

This years Edinburgh to North Berwick race saw a record number of runners (186) complete a 20 mile course from Portobello Prom to North Berwick. The fact that the race was not run over its normal 22 mile course is because the usual start location at Meadowbank couldn’t be used due to traffic management considerations. The weather on the day was sunny but not too warm and the slight tail wind helped to propel the runners the runners towards their destination.

Ray Ward of HBT led the field home in a time of 1:53.18. Not far behind was the first of the EAC competitors, Martin Ferguson, who finished in fourth place with a time of 2:00.08. Andy Laycock finished in tenth place in a time of 2:05.52 just ahead of Pete Middleton ex EAC. In the women’s race Toni McIntosh of Ayr Seaforth took top honours in a time of 2:10.08 ahead of Marietta Beal of EAC who put in a great performance to stay ahead of Michelle Hetherington of Helensburgh. The other EAC athletes competing were Jo Thom and Scott Reed who had finishing times of  2:34.05 and 2:53.16 respectively.

Thanks to all who helped make this such a successful running of this race.
