Lynsey Sharp

Lynsey Sharp, double Olympian, and former European champion and Commonwealth Games medallist, has taken the decision to retire from competition and focus on “other priorities “ in her life with her son Max and husband Andy Butchart.

Lynsey is the daughter of top Scots Cameron and Carol Sharp.
Lynsey along with her sister Carly  both Joined Edinburgh Southern Harriers at a young age, both enjoying much success.

At  9 years old Lynsey joined her sister Carly at Edinburgh Southern Harriers, competing in the Forth Valley League and as an Under 11 won the Club Championship 600m with a time of 1:59.51

Lynsey continued her success through the Junior age groups on the Track and at Cross Country

Winning  European Gold in 2012 and Silver in 2014.
Olympic and World finalist, European under 23 silver medallist, 3 times British champion.

A Silver Medal was a big reward at Hampden at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games after being ill in the preceding 24 hours – and a National Record in the 2016 Olympic final was another top class performance.

Only 4 Scots have bettered 2 minutes for the women’s 800 metres, achieving this between them on 44 occasions. Lynsey Sharp has totted up 35 of these 44.

Career bests of 25.74 (200m), 54.43 (400m), 1:57.69 (800m) and 4:36.27 (1500m).

Lynsey was very much a “club” athlete in her younger years representing ESH in the Youth Development league as an U13 and U15 and Team Edinburgh as an U20, contributing to the success of both teams in UK league competition.

 It was not just in the middle distance events that she showed ability, winning titles over the sprint hurdles and pentathlon.  
Lynsey  has acknowledged the part the club and coaches played  in her development and has been the invited guest at the club’s awards evening, presenting the certificates and trophies.

Lynsey  was awarded Life Membership of the club, following her Olympic and Commonwealth Games selections and successes.
