It is with regret that we have to announce the death of Bert McFail on 12th Jan 2016,
Bert was 83 and a lifelong track, road and cross-country runner, he was very well known, popular and a well respected figure in Scottish Athletics community.
Bert competed for Edinburgh Southern Harriers and latterly Edinburgh Athletic Club with distinction and was an accomplished athlete over a wide range of distances from 1 mile to the Half Marathon.
In 1961 he was ranked 4th in Scotland in the 3000m Steeplechase and over several years he featured prominently in the Scottish rankings in this event and also the 1 Mile.
As a Veteran/Masters athlete he represented Scotland in the British and Irish Championships capturing an individual Silver Medal and helping the team to a Silver and Bronze.
