Emma Nuttall

It is always regrettable when a long term injury forces an athlete into making the difficult decision to hang up their spikes and everyone at Edinburgh AC were saddened to hear that a chronic knee injury is behind Emma Nuttall’s decision to announce her retirement.

Emma joined Edinburgh as an under 13 and along with a number of other club coaches  I had the pleasure of working with her as she became a stalwart  in our Edinburgh teams and began to make her mark on not just the Scottish but the GB high jump scene, gaining Junior GB selection.

Throughout her career she has shown 100 per cent commitment to fulfilling her potential in the high jump and after a year at Glasgow University relocated to Trinity Western University in Vancouver where she enjoyed great success, winning gold in the high jump at the CIS Championships on 3 occasions.

Selection for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games was one of the highlights of her career and on her return to Britain Emma settled in Loughborough and juggled part time work with her athletics in a bid to gain selection for the Gold Coast 2018.
She was named in the Scottish Team for her second Commonwealth Games but a flare up of her injury forced her to take  the tough decision to pull out of the team. Following rehab she gained a GB Senior vest in 2019 in the European Team Championships. Emma can look back on a career, where she has won national titles, set records, represented club and country with pride and everyone in Edinburgh AC wishes her the best in whatever she chooses to do in the future.
