International Childrens Games, Kaunus, Lituania.
July 2017
This month, the City of Edinburgh city took 10 athletes in total, 8 for Athletics and 2 beach volleyballers to Lithuania for the International Children’s Games 2017. We were accompanied by Bill Walker; Lee Goodfellow and Cat McCready from Active Schools Edinburgh; and Jani Bala (volleyball coach).
Joe Ewing, Calum Holmes, Bera Ajala and Kasper Lemvig-Allan; Esther Watson, Isla Innes, Niamh Edgar and Christabel Antwi made the athletics team. Fraser Purdie and Euan Armstrong competed in Beach Volleyball.
We had a very successful trip with Edinburgh despite being a small team appearing on the podium 3 times (finishing fourth overall in the international track and field medals table!)
Joe Ewing – gold in 1500m
Isla Innes – silver in 400m
Girls (Esther, Isla , Niamh and Christabel) – bronze in the 4×100 sprint relay
It was a great experience for all of us to meet other athletes from all over the world, even though the 
accommodation and food wasn’t the nicest. For some of us we would love to have the opportunity to represent our city next year in Jerusalem and maybe even in 2 years wherever ICG may be held. But we hope that many other young athletes will get the same opportunity as we had.

Boys:
Bera Ajala; 7th in the High Jump Final 1.70m and ran 55.39 in the heats of the 400m
Joe Ewing; First in the 1500m with 4:13.26
Calum Homes; 12.07 in the Heats of the 100m and 5.68m in the qualifiers for the Long Jump
Kasper Lemvig Allan; 11th in the Shot Put Final 11.45m
All four boys were in the 4x100m relay and were 4th in the B Final in a time of 48.14
Girls:
Christabel Antwi: 1st in the B Final 100m, 12.69
Niamh Edgar; 7th in the A Final of the 400m 64.94 and jumped 1.45m in the High Jump
Isla Innes: Silver in the Final of the 400m, 58.52 and 13.4 in the 100m Heats.
Esther Watson: jumped 4.88m in the Long Jump and 1.30m in the High Jump
All four Girls won Bronze in the 4x100m 50.11
