Historically Edinburgh AC and Edinburgh Southern Men competed with distinction in the British Athletics League and more recently Edinburgh Southern/Woollen Mill and Edinburgh Athletic Club competed in the UK Women’s Athletic League, going on to win the league and represent Great Britain in Portugal and Turkey in European club Finals. When the 2 leagues disbanded and a new National Athletics League was formed Edinburgh AC were very proactive in constituting the new club and securing sponsorship from Glasgow life, Joma and Tru Wealth, which has enabled Glasgow Jaguars Track and Field Club to proudly take its place in the Premier Division of this new league.
The club’s executive and trustees have recognised the value of this pathway for athletes and have chosen to support both athletes and officials in the 4 league matches. The first league match took place in Manchester on Saturday and the Edinburgh athletes in the team made a valuable contribution to a 4th place finish for the women, and an overall 6th place finish only one point short of 5th.
There is an article on the scottishathletics website with Edinburgh athletes featuring prominently and a link to photos and results (still incorrect)! In addition to the successes of Sarah, Emily, Courtney and Ewan, Cameron Forbes went to the top of the U20 outdoor Scottish High Jump rankings with a clearance of 2.00M.
Congratulations to Courtney, Sarah and Emily, who were named in the Scotland team for the Loughborough International.
Any Senior or U20 in the club, who think they might benefit from this competitive pathway should contact jaguarstandf.membership@gmail.co The registration fee is £10, which athletes should pay but if selected the club will pay any subs due.
