Age has no barrier in athletics and a perfect example of this is Edinburgh AC Master of throws, Bill Gentleman. He has just been awarded the British Hammer Circle Trophy for his dominance in the M75 age group. He has set British records in both hammer and weight throw and these performances exceed all those in the M70 age group as well. A remarkable achievement for bill and without a doubt, a prolific winner over the decades.
His background success includes commonwealth challenge gold in Triple Jump, bronze in hammer 1986, 3 world Golds, 8 world silvers,2 world bronze and 2 European bronze.
Missing out on some Europeans in favour of going to America, taking 9 North, Central America and Caribbean gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze.
Bill is also the oldest winner at 67 of achieving a Scottish Senior medal. British records are in abundance too with hammer records at M65 from 2005, indoor and outdoor weight throw as M70 and British records at M75 hammer and weight throw. Leading the British rankings not only in his own age group M75 but also of the M70. On top of this still an active coach and official.
Congratulations Bill on a fantastic achievement record with a lot more to come in the future. Truly master class.
