Arran Half Marathon Race Report 27/06/10

**Now with added VIDEO!**  …and added Dan Blog! **

Race Report 1 – by Garry Robertson:

EAC ‘on the road’ continued with the Arran Half Marathon. After the long Journey up to Skye two weeks ago, this was a relatively easy journey to a ‘local’ Island half. We headed off on the Saturday morning and 1 ½ hours after leaving Edinburgh, were at Ardrossan waiting for the 50 minute Ferry journey to Arran.

Since we were making a weekend of it, we decided not to take cars across to the Island, but to take bikes as our mode of transport. This meant cycling was also to be a big part of the weekend, it wasn’t all about running. We were staying at the far side of the Island at the Kinloch Hotel, (which just happened to be the race headquarters for the half marathon), so it did mean a longer cycle on the Saturday than perhaps ideal the day before the race, but we were there for an enjoyable weekend, not focussed entirely on getting PB’s in the race. Jonathan’s Hill Update 27/06/10

THE CAFRAEMILL FORTATHON

The anniversary of the battle of Rork’s Drift was a most appropriate date to compete for this highly rated championship.

I was back in competitive action on Saturday in the Carnethy organised annual Fortathon. The rules for this competition are very simple – inside the 3 hours allowed you have to visit as many as the features shown as fort, tower, dun, castle or camp on the OS Explorer map series (1:25000). (more…)

Freya Wins Gold

Aviva European Trials and UK Championships, 27th June 2010
Freya Murray won the women’s 5000m UK title in a time of 15.48.75,  conditions were far from ideal for the endurance athletes, Freya front-ran the race in an attempt to secure a second Commonwealth qualifying performance, but fell short of her target time.

Pat Swan set a PB of 46.75 in the 400m semi-final, and Sarah Hood had a new PB of 10:43.65 in the Steeplechase.

Volunteers Required for EAC events

Our club has a number of key events and fund raisers coming up in the next few months and we need as many people as possible to help out and ensure they run smoothly and efficiently. These events raise much needed funds for the club and it would be appreciated if any club members not actually taking part in the events, could volunteer to help out at one or indeed all of them!
