Volunteers Required for Sports Research

Rob Foster was at the Thursday Meadows training session last night trying to recruit volunteers to help him with his research. Rob is investigating “running economy” in middle and long distance athletes and he is looking for some junior/senior/master club members to assist on a voluntary basis with some of his research.

It will involve testing hamstring and calf flexibility, measuring the calf, ankle, lower arm and wrist circumference and a couple of questions on what type of training you take part in.

After this the participants will be required to run for 15 minutes on a treadmill with 5 minutes at 8km/h, 5 minutes at 10km/h and then 5 minutes at the race pace of the individual for anything over 5km. While the treadmill test is being carried out, he will collect exhaled air for a minute at each set speed. The test in total should take about 40 minutes and will be carried out at the University of Edinburgh’s St.Leonard’s Land building on Holyrood road. After he has collected all of the data, this will be made available to you and your coach for analysis and Rob can make recommendations based on his research and the dissertation.

If you are interested in helping Rob out, you can contact him direct on 07766740391 or by email rob_n1@hotmail.com
