Scottish National Athletics League

On a blustery, cold day at Kilmarnock 26 EAC athletes opened their outdoor season, representing the club in the first fixture of the Scottish National Athletics League.

It was not a day for PBs in the short sprints with the wind firmly in the face of the athletes but there was a strong win for Sam Okpaje in the Senior Mens 100M and a win for Olivia Carah in the Senior 100M hurdles.  Matilda Brockley was a winner on her debut over the 100MH in the U20 age group.

On the field there was a fine win and a 12.47 PB for Matilda Brockley in the U20 Triple Jump, sadly with the wind above the legal limit and in his first competition Ewan Millar recorded a win in the U20 event with 12.47, also windy.  Hannah Goldie took the win in the Senior vault.

The return to Meadowbank, albeit without a functioning throwing circle, is having  an impact and there were wins for Alice Baxendale in Senior Shot and Discus, and a win for Jacob McKinlay in the U20 Discus. There were PB performances from Jacob McKinlay in the Shot, and from brother Thomas in the discus.  Adora Sotannde also recorded a PB in the Hammer.

Magnus Binns equalled his PB in the High Jump and twin Alex recorded an impressive PB in the 100 into a 3-metre headwind.  Rory Bryce took 2 seconds off his 800M PB in less-than-ideal conditions and an hour later competed in his first High Jump competition. Jedidah Ajala also coped well with the conditions to record a big PB in the 400M, and it was also a PB for Mateo Hughes in the Long jump, but the wind was over the legal limit.

There were also fine performances and PBs by athletes, coached by EAC coaches at Meadowbank but competing for other clubs and I am sure these athletes will be the first to thank these coaches for their help.

Thanks to all the athletes, who competed and gained points, the officials who also gained valuable points for the club and coaches John and Anne Scott and Dougie Cameron, who made the long journey to support their athletes.  Full results can be found on

The next match is in Aberdeen on the 18th and the club will again provide free transport for athletes, officials, coaches and spectators.  I am unable to attend the next match, so we urgently need someone to travel on the coach with the athletes and support them at the match.  If anyone thinks they could help, please let us know.
