Road Race Grand Prix

Every year, runners compete throughout the road race season for 2 superb trophies. The current champions (2025) are Kirsty Walker & John Lenehan.

The other aspect of the RRGP is to encourage our athletes to target the same races, fostering a team atmosphere with large numbers of EAC at these races, and hopefully pick up team prizes along the way in addition to any individual prizes and medals.

How does it work?

Runners must complete at least 5 road races from a list of identified races throughout the season. These will be known as club championship qualifying races.

Races will be designated as either Short Races (5k, 5mile); Medium Races (10k, 10mile) or Long Races (half marathon, marathon).

In order to qualify for the overall championship, runners MUST complete a race from each of these categories, plus any two other races from the qualifying races.

You can race as much as you like and your best times (highest points totals) will count.

You can complete your races in any order, ie. medium race, followed by a short race, then another short race, a long race, and then another medium etc.

How you do it, is up to you and your training programme – just as long as you do at least one race from each category, plus another 2 races.

If you run in races outside of the listed competitions (e.g. Valencia Marathon please let us know so we can include that result.

How do you score points?

Points are scored based on the time you run in a race. The faster you run, the more points you score. A universal scoring chart is used to calculate the points.

For example; if you run a 5k in 18.46 you will score 103 points. If you run 37.10 in a 10k you will score 111 points.

Owing to the distance of the short and long laps of National Road relays not being exactly 5k and 10k – we have a special scoring system to reflect this in this race.

You will also get 10 bonus points for every Scottish Championship Road Race you complete, and a bonus 5 points for every East District Road Race Championship you complete.

How do you win?

The person with the most points scored from their 5 qualifying races at the end of the season will be the winner. If no one completes 5 races then runners with less than 5 become eligible, including age group categories. Age categories will be calculated at the start of the calendar year (not on your birthday).

Prizes will be presented at the Annual Christmas party (so any races after that date will not count!)

Qualifying Races in 2026

The focus is on Scottish and East District Championship races, followed by traditionally popular local races. This provides team targets and as well as chasing team medals and prizes, it encourages support and a sense of an EAC community at races.

Additional races will be added depending on races appearing in the Scottish Athletics Calendar.
