Bank of Scotland Grand Prix Hammerama Final 5th September 2009

There were great performances at the final weekend of the series by the three Edinburgh Athletic Club female athletes in the competition.

Kate Turnbull put in an excellent performance, securing a new PB of 39.21 meters to beat Ayr’s Rachel Hunter to top spot on the day, and finished second in the series. She has now re-established herself as Scotland’s Number 2 in the Under 17 age group.

Susan McKelvie destroyed the field in the Senior Women’s competition with a throw of 61.33 meters, her second best of the season, and ran out the outright winner in the series. Susan finishes the season 6th in the UK rankings and is within a whisper of the Commonwealth qualification standard.

Kimberley Reed broke the Grand Prix record and won the Under 15 category with 43.29 meters, her second best throw of the year. She finishes the year with the Scottish Schools, Scottish Championship, English Championship, BoS Hammerama and Scottish Record to her credit. She was also awarded the “Best Female Newcomer” award.
