It iswith deep regret that we have to report the passing of Ian Cliffton

Ianjoined Edinburgh Southern Harriers in 1947 and became their Youth Champion 1949-50

In 1950Ian Joined the Civil Service and worked in Lincoln, he was then called up fornational service in the Army.

In 1957he rejoined Edinburgh Southern Harriers, with whom he ran with for a number ofyears.

However it is as an Official and Administrator that Ian was better known, he was a major figure in Cross Country in Scotland, Secretary of SCCU 1983-1992 and Secretary of SAF CC and RR Commission 1992-1995, Chairman of the World Cross Country Championships 1980, Chief Jumps Judge for the Commonwealth Games, President SAAA 1986
Ian’s contribution to the sport was huge.

Ian was awarded the MBE in 1997 in recognition of his services to Athletics and was a Foundation Trustee of the George Dallas Trust.

Ian wasa well liked and respected official who did so much for the sport and his clubs,Edinburgh Southern Harriers (Club President) and later Edinburgh AC.
