I started coaching in 1985, when my two daughters were members of Edinburgh Southern Harriers. I would stay to watch my daughters in training at Meadowbank and was approached by one of the coaches who asked me if I would like to help out, and then eventually I was asked if I would like to become a coach.
I enjoy coaching this age group in multi-events, teaching them new skills and seeing them gain more confidence and go on to compete for the club. I also enjoy watching their progress after they have moved on to other coaches in the club or even gone on to International level.
Although I have coached for over 40 years, I still pick up hints and can ask the other coaches in the club for advice.
