Donald Gorrie presented to Moira Maguire

The late Donald Gorrie first found fame as a middle- distance runner. He broke the Scottish Native 880 yards record in 1955, won an Oxford Blue three years running and in 1957 was president of the University Athletic Club. He was latterly also a former Liberal Democrat MSP and Honorary President of Edinburgh AC.

The Donald Gorrie Trophy is presented annually to a person in the club who has given distinguished services over the last year.

The winner for 2021 is Moira Maguire

A long time member of the Club competing with Edinburgh Southern Harriers as Moira Walls.
a Scottish record holder in the High Jump, Long Jump and Pentathlon, Moira competed in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and was Bronze medalist in the High Jump at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.

More recently Moira was Chair of the Track and Field Commission for Scotland and served as Club President.
Moira is the Club’s High Jump Coach and can be seen officiating at many athletic meetings.
