Sadly John Robertson passed away on Friday 13th September after a courageous battle against cancer, never losing his cheerful spirit.
He was involved in Athletics for over 40 years. Firstly as a very successful throws coach producing many fine female throwers from the Borders area.
His three daughters Christine, Lynn and Anne all became members of Edinburgh Southern Harriers and for many years John ran an unofficial Borders branch of the club supplying us with not only throwers but quality athletes in most disciplines.

He then went on to timekeeping and had been a Level 3 timekeeper for many years along with his wife Jean, you rarely saw one without the other. He was a  true club member participating in any activity, organising the club cross country championships at Innerleithen and travelling up and down to Edinburgh for any event (I don’t know if he helped Jean make the delicious sandwiches! ) He and Jean accompanied the various teams on the away matches, from the original McDonalds League to the present YDL and UKWAL and his cheerful presence will be sadly missed by all members.
