It was interesting to read on the web of the successes of our young athletes.
At the other end of the scale I followed up my two World Golds in Canada in March in my first outing for two years, by competing in the European Veterans Championships in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary, improving my performances in much tougher competitions to add two Silvers in Hammer and Weight Throw (short, heavy hammer), gaining five personal age group bests in shot, hammer, javelin, throws pentathlon (total points) and weight throw.
I now lead the British rankings in weight throw outdoors and weight throw indoors(with a British Record).
Not too bad for someone who has been an active Club member for over forty years!
Bill Gentleman
Fantastic Bill – really inspirational. A good reminder that training & competing can successfully continue and continue and continue and still bring real achievements & satisfaction.
Never rule anyone out purely on age grounds – you’ll often discover hidden depths & talents!
Impressive stuff Bill. A great example of why no one should ‘retire’ from athletics. Always new challenges and titles to go for.
