Junior Athletes New Members

Junior Athletes (U11-U15)
Following our 3rd Induction Evening sponsored by LDC to which “30” children and their parents attended we are sorry that we are unable to accept any new children in these age groups to the club and will be operating a waiting list for the next induction which will be in the Autumn.

Should spaces become available before then we will contact athletes who have expressed an interest.
Please can we ask all members “not to bring along a friend” to training nights.
Anyone wishing to be considered should contact Yvonne on the email address below.

I would like to add my daughter Alisha Sneddon (age 15) to your waiting list. She is a very keen young individual and has shown great potential in county sport/school sports/sportshall athletics in the past and is very interested in pursuing atheletics. She is an excellent all rounder in 100m sprint, 200m sprint 4×4 relay, high jump and long jump.

I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

    Regards.

Please could you let me know if a space becomes available for my ten year old son Owen to join? He used to be a keen runner but is not finding it easy to keep it going without support and organised practice sessions.
    Many thanks

As a training PE teacher in my final year I have found some students who are interested in joining an athletics club. Its great that there is one in edinburgh but not so great that there is a waiting list to join, this needs to be addressed as students will soon lose interest. If we lose them now they will be lost to this forever, how can you accomadate for more althletes? Those kids which are on the waiting list could be quicker, faster and stronger. Is there a more updated response to this? I’ve not heard about it happening in the past but could the club go around schools to check times of younger athletes after sports days to get them to join the club and harness the talent?
    Its and idea?

    Thanks Allan

      Hi Alan
the reason for introducing the waiting list was to try and address the athletes to coaches ratio.
We were finding that some of the training groups were to large and as a result the coaching to individual athletes was suffering.
The main solution to the problem is to train more coaches, which the club is always trying to do.
The youngsters on the list now go through an induction process and are then placed in a suitable training group.
Coaches from the club already attend the Edinburgh School Athletic meetings and letters are given out to promising athletes and some of these are invited to join the club.
      Derek
