Edinburgh & Lothian Athletes Shine Again!!
Following on from last week’s 3rd place in the UK Young Athletes League Final in Manchester, Team Edinburgh came tantalisingly close to winning the Final of the National Junior Athletic League in Derby this Sunday 12th.
They finished in 3rd place with a total of 446 points, only 7 points behind 2nd placed Shaftesbury Barnet (453 points) and 13 points behind the eventual winners Blackheath and Bromley (459 points)
It was another superb team performance, with a grand total of fifteen gold medals winners. Top performances came from Hannah Evenden (Edinburgh AC) with gold in each of the Hammer, Discus and Shot.
Hannah won the award of female field athlete of the match for her winning throw of 41.19m in the discus. Greg Louden (Lasswade AC) was awarded the male track athlete of the match in recognition of his gold winning 48.19 seconds performance in the 400m.
There were other ‘A’ string wins for Ross Matheson (Lasswade AC) in the 800m and Paula Gass (Edinburgh AC) in the javelin with a superb PB of 41.67 metres, only 10cm short of the Scottish U/17 record. Also victorious were the girls team captain, Sarah Warnock in the Long Jump and both the boys 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays.
The total team medal haul was a magnificent 31medals.
Team Managers Keith Ridley and Moira Maguire would like to record their thanks to all the athletes, coaches, officials and parents who have supported the team throughout the season which has been the most successful ever for Scottish U/20 athletes in UK National competitions.

Congratulations to everyone involved. I noticed that the Men’s team finished second and the Women’s team finished second. I believe NASA scientists are now investigating the freak of mathematics which meant that the joint total ended up as third. 😉
Well done everyone.
Well done to the athletes and team Managers. Lots of hard work done with a great out-come. I am sure all in the clubs are proud of you!
