My thanks to the club members who put me forward as Volunteer of The year at the Scottish Athletics awards night. I was honoured to represent EAC . A good case but not quite good enough. To paraphrase the Wallaby captain from Saturday , there are no excuses, a better person won and we recognise the new bar!
I have to say that that my inspiration , skills and contribution has come from the previous volunteers in ESH and EAC who guided me, kept me right and supported me over the years, also I continue to be surrounded by folk who rally round and help at events , coaching and socials. Finally I hope that club members and athletes ( juniors, seniors and veterans) continue to come forward as EAC is managed for and by volunteers. It can be very informal : help when you can or more formal in skills acquisition like coaching or event management. Whatever volume of contribution you make, you feel good and develop those much rated social, communication and transferable skills .
WHO can we nominate next year?
Alex McEwan
Well said Alex, and thanks so much for everything you do. Your guidance has been invaluable to me on many levels, in addition to my admiration for how you tune into what we need as a distance squad and keep us moving forward so enthusiastically.
Entirely agree – Long may he continue!!!
