The EAC Endurance group entered 9 teams in the annual Sri Chinmoy “Self-Transcendence” 3×1 mile relays organised by Run and Become at the Meadows on the evening of Wednesday 25th July.
Even with the inevitable late call offs due to work or niggles, all 9 teams completed the race. We had decided to enter mostly single sex teams to be at our most competitive, rather than the more fun alternative of mixed.
There were a whole host of personal and season’s bests run on the night, with several athletes making racing returns from injury under the backdrop of a gloriously sunny Edinburgh evening. It complemented the convivial atmosphere of all the competitors. Whilst we think our men just missed out on a medal, 3 of our ladies teams picked up 1st, 2nd and 3rd in that category.
The Ladies A team of Chloe Cox, Isla Scott-Pearce and Laura Dunn finished in 16min 18s winning by 37s. Laura anchored the team with 5min 15s. It was particularly apt that our 2nd placed team contained Emma Baker as this was her last run before moving down South to Cornwall (we hope to see her soon). Also in that team were Lyndsey Fraser and Jocelyn Moar. The 3rd placed team was not so strictly EAC but a lovely representation of how we interact with others. Lyndsey actually ran the 3rd leg for this team too and it also contained runners from Harmeny and Portobello!! Finally two-thirds of the winning Men’s V50 team were EAC runners Matt Newnham and Jim Scott. Well done everyone.
Fastest amongst the boys were Mark MacDermot, Iain Whitaker and Nick Wolverson who all ran around 4min 56s. Nick to give him his due had already run approximately 11 miles before his race earlier in the day.
The evening was finished off with a thirst quenching trip to the Golf Tavern to wish Emma all the best in her new challenges ahead.
