Bank of Scotland National Age Group (U15 / U17) Championships
We are asking every club, every coach, and every involved person to seek to “pick up the baton” and encourage more young athletes enter and attend the National U15 and U17 Championships.
scottishathletics of course has a major role to play alongside our clubs in this regard, but as Frank says – we all have our part to play.
We will be directly encouraging athletes and coaches to enter and attend (we would love both record entries, and record attendance!), and we are today announcing a club-challenge.
We have on file (and we will use the data as of today’s date – 20th July 2010), the numbers of athletes U17 that each club has registered.
There will be two prizes –
one which can be awarded on the day, the second of which may take some identifying later!
- Prize 1: For the club that enters the highest percentage of its U15 / U17 athletes in the Bank of Scotland National Age Group Championships on 14th and 15th August.
- Prize 2: For the club that has the highest actual participation as a percentage of its U15 / U17 membership at the Bank of Scotland Age Group Championships on 14th & 15th August 2010.
Both of the above prizes will include attendance by Scotland’s National Coaching Team at a club training session (at the clubs home venue) on a date that suits.
National Coaches will work with athletes and the club / personal coaches, and will also be available for a discussion afterwards.
We will also be promoting and entering athletes into the IAAF “World Keeps Running– Kids Challenge” programme http://www.worldkeepsrunning.org/Kids_Challenge.aspx which offers unique prizes for performances against International standards.
Follow the link and have a look in advance – we’ll be on-line entering athletes as they cross the line – compete against yourself as well as others!
We hope this extra challenge and incentive might provide an extra motivation for some athletes to enter this prestigious event and help their club be recognised at the same time!
We will also be presenting a range of “spot” prizes on the day to athletes competing – ranging in value from the prestigious to the not quite so!! We look forward to seeing you all there for two fantastic days competition.
Yours faithfully,
Nigel Holl
Chief Executive
